TEN YEARS RETROSPECTIVE AUTOPSY STUDY OF THROTTLING AND TRAUMATIC ASPHYXIA

Objectives: The objectives of the study were to assess characteristics wounds on body if present and effect constriction externally as well internally underlying structures neck in throttling traumatic asphyxia. Methods: Collection data was done from record autopsies conducted cases asphyxia among violent asphyxial deaths mortuary associated with Department Forensic Medicine Toxicology, Government Medical College, Amritsar, during past 10 years January 1, 2006, December 31, 2015. Results: Among studied, 5 (1.23%) studied throttling, 4 (0.98%) suffocation, least common for which only 3 (0.74%) studied. Out mechanical injuries (80%) cases, out bruises seen 1 (20%) case, while abrasions combination (60%) cases. (100%) asphyxia, contusion strap muscles, sternocleidomastoid, subcutaneous tissue all Regarding time since death, majority (50%) have 12 24 h, followed by two each (25%) 36 h 7 days. Conclusion: Knowledge these is necessary consistent diagnostic challenges strangulation, other forms compression.
